DRAFT’s Segs4Vets program

For Veterans

Take a gander at this great video (http://www.youtube.com/user/Segs4Vets?feature=mhum).  I’m in awe of what DRAFT’s Segs4Vets program has done to assist disabled veterans.  DRAFT (www.draft.org) and their many supporters (including the late Jimi Heselden) not only give disabled vets a means to get around more easily.  It also helps with their confidence, self-respect, and their re-integration into society.

And today I was reminded of another organization: B&B’s For Vets (www.bnbsforvets.org).  Bed and breakfasts and inns in most states and internationally offer free rooms at their establishments to veterans and current service people to honor them in observance of Veteran’s Day in November – including a number of our local Authentic Bed and Breakfasts of Lancaster County, PA (www.authenticbandb.com).

And then realizing there must be other groups out there dedicated to honoring and assisting veterans, I Googled a handful of partial website domain names (forvets.org, forveterans.org, 4vets.org, 4veterans.org, etc.).  And what popped up?  A little bit of everything – from guitars for vets to assisted living for vets.

I never realized there was so much assistance available for veterans and service people that’s provided by private citizens through non-profit organizations.  Am I a vet?  No, but it makes me proud to know that there are so many people supporting our veterans when they need it most.

Thanks for listening.
